SUMMARY:Personal Practice Retreat--September 2025
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to be able to once again host a 1-week personal retreat at Ser Chö Ösel Ling\, our retreat land in Goldendale\, WA. Some may sign up for the entire week and others will come for a weekend. The week or weekend of retreat will begin on a Friday September 19. \nDuring the personal retreat time\, all retreatants keep the same schedule and practice on their own in their rooms or in one of the meditation halls. Everyone gathers for meals and in the evening after dinner for a short meditation and the recitation of aspiration prayers or inspirational songs. All of the meals will be provided. \nThe personal retreat is an excellent way to deepen one’s practice in the support of other community members. Being able to devote more time to meditation away from our habitually busy usual environs can be very inspiring and nurturing. Each day will have periods of silence\, and silence will also be observed for a number of days during the week. \nBefore engaging in personal retreat\, it is recommended that participants have some previous experience that includes at least some facilitated group retreat and perhaps some individual retreat. The most skillful approach to personal retreat is to begin with a weekend and gradually increase the length of one’s stay. Beginning with a retreat that is beyond one’s current capacity can undermine the potential benefit of one’s stay and unnecessarily dampen enthusiasm for future retreat. \nRegardless of experience\, each participant will create an individualized practice plan – either by themselves or in consultation with an advisor. If you are new to personal retreat with KCC\, we request that you speak with an advisor about creating an outline for your retreat in order to facilitate a meaningful experience. To design a retreat plan\, you can reach out to Lama Eric by making an appointment HERE\, or to Lama Kathleen at kdabenz@gmail.com. \nRegistration\nThe number of participants for this retreat will be limited to 16 participants in single occupancy cabins only\, allowing for a spacious environment. Registration is now closed. \nPricing (includes single cabin and 3 meals per day)\nPer night: $90\, minimum two nights.\nEveryone starts on the same day\, and chooses the length that works for them. \nFinancial Assistance: Financial Assistance (up to 50% of the retreat cost) may be available for individuals with financial constraints. The number of FA available depends entirely on donations to the Financial Assistance Fund. For those who can afford it\, please consider contributing to the Financial Assistance Fund so that others who are less financially fortunate are able to attend KCC retreats. \nTo apply for Financial Assistance\, review the KCC Financial Assistance Policy. Once you have read the policy guidelines\, contact the Financial Assistance Team at KCC-FA@kcc.org. After you have received confirmation\, you may register for the retreat. \n \nMeals and Chores\nThree vegetarian meals will be served daily. Retreatants are expected to contribute up to one hour per day toward chores that will be done during the three meal breaks.\n\nVIEW EVENT DETAILS: https://staging2.kcc.org/event/personal-practice-retreat-september-2025/

SUMMARY:Children's Program
DESCRIPTION:The KCC Children’s Program is an opportunity to introduce children to Buddhist values within a supportive\, sincere dharma community using simple dharma activities\, storytelling\, open discussion\, songs\, art projects and activities\, including play\, to promote kindness and compassion. Our goal is to provide a fun\, meaningful experience for all. \nSunday Morning Children’s Program \nOn the second and fourth Sundays of each month\, from 9:00 to 11:00 am\, we offer the Sunday Morning Children’s Program. This program normally starts in September and runs through the second Sunday in June. In July and August we meet once a month on the fourth Sunday. We require that at least one parent or guardian be present at KCC when their child attends. \nThe age range we currently serve is 5 to 12; however\, we do allow slightly younger and older children on a case by case basis as appropriate. Please feel free to discuss this with the program coordinator if needed. \nWhile there is no fee for the program\, dana (offerings) are accepted and go towards helping us continue providing programs such as these. In order to support the program on Sundays we ask that parents agree to be available to assist the teacher if needed – this is a shared role and can be filled by parents or other adults who wish to participate in this way. During the regular school year please note that we request you consider committing to bringing your child both Sundays each month throughout this time frame\, but this is not required. \nAlso please be aware that\, to attend this program\, your child needs to be able to manage their speech and physical activity cooperatively in a small group to help maintain a peaceful children’s sangha. If this is a concern we ask that you attend with your child until they are comfortable with the group. Ultimately we want to be as inclusive as possible\, but must also work to create a safe and welcoming environment for all attending.\n\nVIEW EVENT DETAILS: https://staging2.kcc.org/event/childrens-program-4/2025-09-28/

SUMMARY:The Essence of Meditation: Letting Go Into Being
DESCRIPTION:Feel like you need a sanity break?\nNever done a meditation retreat before?\nNeed some inspiration for your meditation? \nThis weekend retreat—from Friday evening till Monday lunch—can serve any of these purposes and more. Just to extract ourself from the treadmill of daily patterns to visit our spacious\, quiet\, and nurturing retreat land for a weekend does us good. Combine that with gentle and repeated opportunities to become more familiar with the essence of our being through guided meditation and we have something even more meaningful. \nSo much of our unease\, self-criticism\, despondency\, or stress is caused by thoughts and patterns of thinking that we are often barely aware of. Meditation is about becoming more and more familiar with the essence of our being—that which lies beneath all fleeting experiences and is a source of inherent well being. This retreat is an opportunity to engage more deeply in this process and can equally serve as an introduction to or as an infusion of inspiration for this path of discovery. \nIn this retreat we will cover the benefits of meditation\, experimenting with several techniques\, and have time for questions and discussion about the practices. There will be frequent stretch breaks and options to sit on a cushion\, in a chair\, or lie on the floor. Vegetarian meals will be provided\, and we all will perform assigned tasks to contribute to the retreat experience. \nLooking forward to being with you there! \nRegistration is closed. \n \n\nVIEW EVENT DETAILS: https://staging2.kcc.org/event/the-essence-of-meditation-letting-go-into-being-oct-25/

SUMMARY:Yidam Practice: From Complexity to Intimacy with Lama Yeshe Chödrön - Half-Day + Potluck Lunch
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to welcome Lama Karma Yeshe Chödrön of Prajna Fire as a guest teacher this week\, who will be teaching on moving from complexity to intimacy with Yidam practice. \nWith its richness of imagery and detail\, Yidam practice can appear mysterious and otherworldly — at once alluring and daunting. This talk offers a shift of perspective\, viewing that very complexity as an invitation to intimacy with our own direct experience. When we engage imagery\, mantra\, and symbolism as an array of instruments at our disposal\, yidam practice becomes a vivid exploration of mind’s sacred creativity\, supporting our path to embodying the true nature of mind. \nPlease join us for a potluck at the noon break! \nLama Karma Yeshe Chödrön is a scholar\, teacher\, and translator in the Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism\, and a long-term student of Kyabje Bokar Rinpoche. Before studying Buddhism\, she completed graduate degrees in biology and law\, and worked as a litigator in Miami and Silicon Valley. \nSince 2005\, she has taught and translated Dharma texts and oral teachings from Tibetan to English for the Rigpe Dorje Institute for International Students at Pullahari Monastery in Nepal. Yeshe successfully completed the traditional Kagyu lineage three-year cloistered retreat at Vajra Vidya Retreat Center in Crestone\, Colorado in 2016\, under the auspices of Kyabje Thrangu Rinpoche. She then co-founded Prajna Fire\, an online global community aimed at sharing traditional methods for transmitting experiential understanding of Buddhadharma with Western students. Her writings have appeared in Lion’s Roar\, Buddhadharma\, and Tricycle. She is co-host of the Prajna Sparks podcast and two seasons of Opening Dharma Access: Listening to BIPOC teachers podcast. \nThis event is offered freely\, in the spirit of generosity. If you would like to donate to the teacher\, you can do so via PayPal at dana@prajnafire.com or by envelope on the day of. If you would like to help us continue hosting teachings from diverse voices\, we invite you to consider sponsoring part of this event or contributing toward future guest teacher offerings. Your donations help us create a more inclusive and vibrant spiritual community. Donate here.\n \nJoin for the session online \nClick the Zoom button below to enter the session. Anyone who is interested should contact Catherine Harris at catahar@peak.org or Jan Glenn at janbglenn@yahoo.com. \nFor our web archive of items of interest — for example\, Lama Eric’s booklet for July 2020 class ’Skillfully Traversing the Bardos’\, calligraphy by Jan Glenn\, list of books\, compilations of poems\, jokes and cartoons\, as well as our meeting structure and links to legal documents — click HERE.\n\nVIEW EVENT DETAILS: https://staging2.kcc.org/event/death-and-dying-study-group-2-2-2-2/2025-10-07/
