Buddha’s Women Disciples – An SCOL Retreat

March 24, 5:30 pm - March 27, 10:00 am

Teacher: Lama Chimey (Lois Beran)

There were numerous accomplished and realized women who were disciples of the Buddha 2,500 years ago – both lay and monastic. The stories and songs of these women are contained primarily in the Pali Canon and have survived – first orally and then in writing – since the time of the Buddha. The very fact of survival indicates their significance to Buddhism.

This retreat will be a mixture of sharing the songs, stories, and biographies of the women; how their realizations relate to specific teachings of the Buddha; the history and culture of that era; and sessions of shamatha.

This will be a joyful retreat! Participants will have opportunities to enact or read their favorite poems. Artists, bring your tools!

Men and women alike are encouraged to join this retreat.
