January 26, 2021, 5:30 pm - January 31, 2021, 6:30 pm

Virtual Event Virtual Event

Teacher: Lama Eric Triebelhorn

We will explore the vipashyana techniques over these five days. In this practice one systematically explores one’s assumptions about the mind, thoughts, and perceptions. It is an approach that mixes analytical investigation with resting. This practice can be very challenging and is not recommended for those newer to meditation. If you have not been practicing for at least a few years, this retreat may not be for you.

The practice of shamatha is about gaining a foothold in the faculties of mindfulness and awareness. Through this meditation, we come to see more clearly the content of mind, and with time, the thoughts and emotions can settle from time to time opening into spaciousness. This practice is wonderful and critical, but shamatha will never lead to liberation. For that we must practice vipashyana where we look into the nature of mind and its contents.

Texts

The teachings will follow the book Clarifying the Natural State by Dakpo Tashi Namgyal. There is a commentary on this work by Thrangu Rinpoche published as Crystal Clear. These will be available in the KCC bookstore prior to the retreat. Contact ">Linda Grove if you would like to purchase them. For those who would rather have only one book, Lama Eric recommends Clarifying the Natural State. Both of these books are available in PDF format for $2.00 at Namo Buddha Publications.
