Shamatha Meditation – PM
February 27, 2022, 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Teacher: Lama Chimey (Lois Beran)
To attend an evening Shamatha practice session: Use the Zoom button that appears below 15 minutes prior to each session (i.e., Sunday at 6:15pm).
This evening’s topic: Tribal Roots of the Buddha.
Questions to ponder:
- Was Buddha a prince? His father a king and his mother a queen?
- Were they of the kshatriya (warrior-king) caste/vanna?
- What is the source of these beliefs?
- What do modern scholars say about the life of the Buddha?
The foundation of Buddhist meditation is Shamatha, a meditation that develops stable attention which serves as the essential underpinning of all other meditation practices.
At the beginning of each session, brief instruction to the practice of Shamatha will be given. After a one-hour session and a 10-minute break, there will be a teaching or question-and-answer period with participants.
6:30pm – 7:30pm — Shamatha meditation, with brief instruction
7:45pm – 8:30pm — Teachings and/or question and answer session
