Kagyu Changchub Chuling has two locations, an urban center in Portland, Oregon, and a retreat center near Goldendale, Washington. We host regular meditation sessions and classes in Portland, while retreats take place in Washington. Locations are noted in event announcements.
Portland Center
Our Portland center is located in Portland’s Northeast Cully neighborhood. For over 35 years, our home was an old Portland foursquare fifty blocks east of our current location. In 2016, after years of serious and casual searches, we finally identified a building that would suit our expanding needs. A 1934 structure originally built as a Christian church, we acquired and remodeled the building, unveiling it for the visit of Khenpo Lodrö Donyö Rinpoche in 2017.

In 2001, KCC purchased 240 acres of wooded land north of Goldendale, Washington. Over the next decade, the community built a facility designed to accommodate retreats of all lengths, including fully cloistered, traditional three-year retreats like the one that concluded in 2018. Kyabje Bokar Rinpoche, who was an inspiration for and early supporter of the project, gave the land the title Ser Chö Ösel Ling — “Land of the Clear Light Golden Dharma.”
The retreat center features two cloisters, each with separate cabins, dining and bathroom facilities, and a meditation hall. KCC hosts retreats of all lengths at SCOL, which is maintained and supported by full-time staff. Please visit our Retreats and Events page to see upcoming events.
