Trash Wiser: Easy Swaps for Greener Living

October 3, 2025

Climate Corner suggests a small behavior change we can adopt each month to live more ethically and responsibly.

This month, let’s take a look at our trash bags and if they are plastic, let’s replace them.

According to many sources, plastic is a problem. It is made from fossil fuels, contributes to air pollution, harms marine life, gets into our food supply, and resists decomposing for centuries. Take a look here to learn more.

If you are using new plastic bags, a good change could be to switch to bags made from recycled plastic. Even better, we can find bags that are fully biodegradable. Here are some biodegradable bags that hold up well in the trash can: Hippo Sak; Emily’s Choice.

There are many options, so look around at your co-op, grocery, or natural food store for bags you can feel good about throwing out with the trash!
